ArchivalResource

Papers of Charles E. Taylor, 1838-1893.

The papers include five letters written by Taylor to his family while a student at the University of Virginia, 1866-1868; comic pencil sketches of student life; Greek, Latin, French, Physics and Math notebooks, some containing contemporary newspaper clippings, ca. 1885-1893, kept by Taylor while professor and president of Wake Forest College; and a notebook, 1838-1839, of John L. Prichard. Of interest is a draft of a letter, 1888, to John Wannamaker concerning a postmaster position in Wake Forest for which there were white and African American candidates, and a Republican Party "stump speaking" attended by students. There is also a clipping, 1864 May 13, from a Richmond, Va., paper, gives an account of the latest engagements and mentions that General Stuart was "wounded."
